Kilkenny Mart manager George Candler said there was a bigger sale of cattle in Kilkenny on Thursday.

The stand-out news from the sale was the remarkably good trade considering the present climate and beef prices.

Quality continental bullocks, especially those in the suckler herd, were very much in demand, with top lots ranging from €2.30/kg to €2.96/kg.

The top price in this category was for five Limousin bullocks which weighed 375kg and made €1,280/head.

The bulk of the quality Friesian bullocks ranged from €1.60/kg to €1.85/kg, with exceptional types to €2.00/kg.
