Elphin Mart is the place to be on Saturday for anyone after the top of the pops in the commercial cattle world. The Corvalley Classie Lassies are going under the hammer in Elphin Mart on 17 October at 12pm.
Mc Enaney Livestock are presenting 45 in-calf heifers and 68 maiden heifers on the day with some of the best heifers sourced from across Ireland going under the hammer.
All the 45 in-calf heifers are spring-calving and are in-calf to some of Ireland's top easy-calving bulls with Loyal, EBY Slieve Pablo and an EBY stock bull all used on the heifers.
Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal, Gavin Mc Enaney said: "We have hand-picked all these heifers from sales across Ireland over the last two-years, there has been a lot of careful thought gone into the matings of the in-calf heifers with some of the top easy-calving bulls available used, we have used some sexed female semen to allow farmers that extra chance of getting a show quality heifer calf.
“Of the 45 in-calf heifers there are 17 roan coloured Limousin-cross heifers with a further 15 Belgian Blue-cross heifers and five Charolais-cross heifers.

Also included in the in-calf heifer consignment is a number of pedigree heifers, with three pedigree Limousin heifers going under the hammer along with a pedigree Belgian Blue and Charolais heifer also included.
"The 68 maiden heifers are all scanned correct for breeding by Peter O’Broin of Future Genetics, the heifers are weighing from 500kg up to some over 700kg. There are approximately 15 heifers halter trained that would be very suited to future showing," added Gavin.

"We have a heifer for everyone, there are 20 red/roan Limousin-cross heifers on offer with a further 16 black Limousin heifers. On top of the 36 Limousin heifers there are 20 Belgian Blue-cross heifers for the sale with eight Charolais heifers also on offer.
"Anyone who wants to see what's on offer head over to our socials Mc Enaney Livestock where our catalogue is available. In the catalogue is a full breakdown of our sale with the breeding and service details of all heifers.

"I have no doubt there are plenty of heifers that will go on to breed show calves down the line, we are offering heifers that I do believe are flushing standard for anyone in the market. There are even two super pedigree Belgian Blue-cross maiden heifers on offer.
"There are heifers on offer that have won championships at various shows and sales, with lot 109 being one of the standout heifers she won the Kepak beef animal of the future at Tullamore Show in 2024."
Gavin added: "We are covering all mart fees for the purchasers, the price you pay ringside is all you’ll be charged.

"For any mainland UK buyers Harrison and Hetherington is supporting the sale with export available to Borderway Mart.
"For Northern Ireland customers export is available through Elphin Mart with viewing on between 5pm and 8pm on Friday 16 October in Elphin Mart and the morning of the sale.

"Online bidding is available through MartBids with payment required on the day for purchased stock, new customers need to contact Elphin Mart to register for online bidding 24 hours before the sale. The sale starts at 12pm with the maiden heifers first to go under the hammer followed by the in-calf heifers."
