I have received reports of a man in his late 50s or early 60s calling to farmers in the north Tipperary area.

The man visited farmyards saying he was carrying out a survey on behalf of the Irish Farmers Journal. However, the Irish Farmers Journal is categorically not carrying out a survey at the moment.

The scam caller asked farmers who they are banking with, about the length of their loan and their attitude to the banks. He also asked for the farmer’s mobile number.

When questioned, the door-to-door caller said he was from Portumna and appeared to have some knowledge of people and hurling in Galway.

If someone fitting this description and line of questioning calls into your yard, report the matter to the gardaí, and under no circumstances give any private information.
