LIFE is an EU fund used to protect environmentally sensitive areas and has funded over 4,300 projects totalling €3.4bn since 1992.

Burren LIFE is a local agri environment scheme which covers 2,000ha and has four main principles of being farmer-led, results-based, flexible and local.

“Being shortlisted as one of the top 15 of all time is a really great acknowledgement of the project, the Burren and all the people involved, in particular the local farmers who put so much effort into the project over the years,” said manager of the Burren programme Dr Brendan Dunford.

An online vote is being used to shortlist the top two of the five projects across the three categories of nature, environment and climate. A link to voting for the Burren project is available on the LIFE programme’s Facebook page and votes can be cast by liking the box on the right-hand side of the page.
