BVD eradication on target for next year

Incidence of the disease continues to fall rapidly, according to results of tissue testing on calves to date in 2019.

Animal Health Ireland is on track to eradicate BVD from cattle herds by 2020.

The number of negative tests has risen to 98.99%. Positive tests have fallen from 810 this time last year to 586 in 2019.

The number of BVD-positive herds has fallen from 465 to 339.

Meanwhile, the number of herds retaining a PI for more than three weeks is 34.
