Camera at the mart attended the special sale of pedigree and commercial Limousin cattle offered by Lineview Limousins at Swatragh Mart.

Owned by the Callaghan Brothers of Roslea, the herd has a long history of breeding Limousin cattle and the sale was an opportunity for farmers to purchase foundation stock or add to existing bloodlines.

Mart manager Paul Coyle said the sale was a tremendous success attracting customers from right across the province and prices paid were reflective of the quality of animals on show.

On the evening, there was a packed sale ring with multiple buyers for all classes of stock on offer. Cow and calf units in particular were highly sought after and attracted strong bidding interest from pedigree and commercial herd owners.

Headlining the reduction sale was an entry of 52 pedigree animal, consisting of in-calf cows, cow and calf units and maiden heifers.

Topping the sale was Lineview Helen and her bull calf with the outfit making 1,900gns. Born in May 2012, Helen was sired by Greyhill Calm and out of the homebred Lineview Ulreka.

Her May 2018-born bull calf was sired by Millbrook Tanko. Helen is also scanned in-calf to Ampertaine Foreman and due to calve in March 2019.

Next highest was Lineview Impluse which sold for 1,850gns. Impluse was born in April 2013 and sired by Greyhill Calm.

The cow is scanned in-calf to Ampertaine Foreman and was sold with her September 2018-born bull calf, also sired by Foreman, at foot.

Several cows were in-calf to either Foreman or Wilodge Formula One. Cow and calf units sold from 1,280gns to 1,700gns with an average of just over 1,320gns.

A May 2018-born Ampertaine Abracadabra bull calf sold to 1,250gns with maiden heifers selling to 1,100gns for a March 2018-born Drumagarner Lionheart daughter.

Commercial cows were a super trade, with suckler outfits making £1,560 for an August 2015 cow and a November 2018-born heifer calf sired by Foreman. A June 2014-born cow with a March-born Abracadabra heifer calf at foot sold for £1,360. The animal was scanned in-calf again to Abracadabra and due to calve in late January.
