While the sale wasn’t huge given the time of year, trade was good on the day, with just over 70 animals entered.

Heifers weighing from 250kg to 350kg averaged €2.35/kg, while those weighing 350kg to 450kg made €2.25/kg.

This April 2019-born Shorthorn heifer weighed 480kg and sold for €1,020 (€2.13/kg).

There was a larger entry of bullocks, with an average price of €2.35/kg paid for 250kg to 350kg animals.

Sixteen bullocks weighing 350kg to 400kg averaged €2.42/kg, with a good number of continental types fetching €2.40 to €2.50/kg in the main.

This May 2019-born Limousin bullock weighed 304kg and sold for €820 (€2.70/kg).

Bullocks in the 400kg to 500kg weight band averaged €2.32/kg and up to €2.91/kg for a 12-month-old Charolais weighing 492kg who sold for €1,430.

This March 2019-born Limousin bullock weighed 564kg and sold for €1,190 (€2.11/kg).

There were a couple of cows with calves at foot. A 2017-born Hereford cow with a June-born Limousin heifer calf at foot sold for €1,425, while a 2018-born Angus cow with a May-born Limousin heifer calf at foot sold for €1,380.

This pair of May and June 2019-born Charolais bullocks weighed 350kg and sold for €870 (€2.49/kg).

“It gives more flexibility to the buyers who can now bid without the need to be here, while, for the seller, we are exposing their stock to more potential buyers.

This October 2019-born Aubrac bull weighed 408kg and sold for €1,100 (€2.70/kg).

Almost 30% of the cattle were sold online, which is a great result for our first sale.”
