Cattle prices: An improved trade for all types at Balla

The more settled weather and increased activity from farmer buyers had a positive effect on Saturday's sale at Balla Mart.

The bullock ring was particularly strong, with prices up on last week.

In other areas, mart managers have reported a slightly improved trade also. Fleshed bullocks that are suitable for slaughter or for a short-keep feed were a strong trade and sold frequently from €700 to €800 over the weight, with a number of fleshed 600kg types making over €1,400/head.

Saturday’s sale at Balla Mart saw another large entry of almost 1,000 cattle on offer. The trade was quite strong, and prices were a touch higher than last week for better-quality cattle.
