The bullock ring was particularly strong, with prices up on last week.

In other areas, mart managers have reported a slightly improved trade also. Fleshed bullocks that are suitable for slaughter or for a short-keep feed were a strong trade and sold frequently from €700 to €800 over the weight, with a number of fleshed 600kg types making over €1,400/head.

Store bullocks

Store bullocks were a strong trade also, and well up on last week. Average-quality types from 500kg to 600kg sold mainly from €600 to €700 over the weight.

Top-quality U grade types sold from €2.20/kg to €2.30/kg. Stores from 400kg to 500kg were a strong trade and were met with plenty of farmer buyer activity − prices ranged from €2.20/kg to €2.40/kg, with top-quality types making from €2.50/kg to €2.60/kg.

Heifers

The heifer ring saw a good entry of well-fed heifers. Buyers were active, but the prices achieved were slightly lower than the equivalent weight bullock. Heifers over 500kg sold mainly from €2.00/kg to €2.20/kg, with top-quality types making up to €800 along with the weight.

There was an improved trade for plainer heifers on the day also, with plain 450kg types easily making €950 to €1,050. Heifers from 400kg to 500kg saw prices range mainly from €2.20/kg to €2.30/kg, with top-quality types making up to €2.50/kg.
