Today's sale in Balla saw another strong entry of stock on offer. Mart manager Michael Murphy said that numbers for this week are up about 100 head on the same time last year. He said that demand continues to be strong and farmers continue to be very active for store cattle.

Store bullocks were a very strong trade and the sale achieved high clearance rates. Heifers fetched very strong prices with top quality cattle from 400kg to 500kg selling from €700 to €900 along with their weight. Several 500kg to 600kg heifers made from €1,350 to €1,500. A good entry of fleshed cows were met with very strong factory agent demand. As a result prices ranged mainly from €2.00/kg to €2.20/kg for good quality slaughter fit types.

An entry of cows with calves at foot attracted good farmer attention. Young cows sold well with prices of up to €2,000 being achieved. Older cows with young calves at footsold from €1,300 to €1,500. Younger cows and those with stronger calves sold from €1,550 upwards.
