The mixed weather was felt by many farmers, with delays to second-cut silage and hay-making gone awry in many parts of the country.

Some areas experienced as little as one wet day in June, though Mullingar in Co Westmeath and Newport in Co Tipperary experienced 22 days of rain for the month of June.

Temperatures

Temperatures were also slightly below average for last month. The highest temperature was recorded at Shannon airport at 28.4°C on 27 June.

In contrast, the lowest temperature was at Markee, Co Sligo, with 1.1°C recorded on 15 June.

Despite lower temperatures no air frost was reported last month and the number of days with ground frost ranged from zero to five days at Claremorris in Co Mayo.
