This year, the focus of the South of Ireland Suffolk Sheep Society stand at the Ploughing is very much on the Suffolk cross female and its role within the Irish sheep industry.
The Suffolk cross female stands as one of the top replacements available within the national flock. Suffolk cross females are renowned for their longevity, good feet and high resistance to mastitis with good milking ability. The breed offers versatility on all markets, being suitable for replacements and exports as well as finishing.
The cross ewe’s capacity to produce prime-quality lambs, regardless of the breed of ram, has led to an increased demand in recent years.
