The annual show and sale of ewe lambs at Aghanloo near Limavady on Tuesday saw a top price of £370 for a pen of Greyface lambs.

The highest priced pen was exhibited by local farmers Arnold and Brian Douglas and was placed first in the Greyface show before the sale.

The Mule section was won by Eugene and Eoin Lagan from Drumsurn and their prize-winning pen went on to sell for £330.

Christopher and Martin Mullan from Drumsurn won the Suffolk Cheviot show with a pen of ewe lambs that later sold for £262.

Breeding sheep trade

The recent dip in fat lamb prices seems to have had no impact on the breeding sheep trade. Overall, an entry of 1,511 ewe lambs on Tuesday sold to an average price of £202.

The strongest lambs on offer made over £230, with the run of lots selling for £190 to £210.

Plainer and smaller lambs made around the £170 mark and only a few lots changed hands for less than £160 on the day.
