Now is the time to be giving the salmonella vaccine. The big risk with salmonella at this time of year is abortion in cows and the advice seems to be to vaccinate now, rather than later in the year.
Many farmers don’t vaccinate for salmonella at all. Whether or not to vaccinate depends on your own herd’s exposure to the disease and the risk of them getting it.
Farmers that weren’t vaccinating and have had a salmonella outbreak nearly always regret not vaccinating, as it is a very costly disease.

Some farmers will combine giving the vaccine with the day they are scanning the cows, to avoid having to run cows through the crush twice.
