After a strong start to the 2020/21 milking season, Australian milk production has slowed sharply over recent months. New figures released by the Australian dairy industry shows October milk production in the southern hemisphere country stood at 960m litres, which was down slightly (-0.3%) compared to the same month last year.
This brings Australian milk production for the first four months of the 2020/21 milking season, which runs from July 2020 to June 2021, to a cumulative 3.2bn litres. This is 1.6%, or 50m litres, ahead of the same period last year.
Australian milk production got off to a really strong start this season with milk supply up 3% to 4% in July and August. However, the growth in milk production has slowed sharply in September and October. Australia is currently moving through its months of peak milk production.
