Milk supply across EU member states was up 5% in January, with 20 countries recording an increase in supply delivered to processors.
The highest growth was in Belgium, with supplies up 10%, while Romania recorded the largest decrease in production (-10.9%).
Milk market observatory data shows that production strongly increased major producers like Germany, up 7%, France, up 5.8%, the Netherlands, up 6.2% and also in Italy which recorded a rise of 6%.
Milk collection in 2025 across the EU was 1.7% higher than in 2024.
Global collections
The data shows that New Zealand milk supply in January, the eighth month of their season, was up 2% while Australian production, the seventh month of their season, was up 1.5%.
Across the water in the UK, supplies strongly increased by 3.8% while in the US production was up by 3.2%.
Ireland
Central Statistics Office (CSO) data for January 2026 shows that Irish milk production was up 4% in January 2026.
Processors took in an estimated 169.4m litres – an increase of almost 7m litres on January 2025 and a 20.9m litre increase (14%) on January 2024 levels.
