The CSO's agricultural price output index decreased by 5.5% in May 2015 compared with May 2014. Milk prices suffered the highest drop, with prices falling 24% from 2014 and 5.1% from April to May this year.
Meanwhile, according to figures compiled by the Irish Farmers Journal, milk supplies to the end of May were up between 6% and 15%.
Prices for cattle were up 33.8% compared to 2014, while premiums paid for cattle rose by 9.8%. There was a 10% drop in pig prices, while sheep and poultry sectors dropped by 1.8% and 1.1% respectively.
Cereal prices fell 11.9%, but potato prices have increased by 13.1%.
Input prices
Input prices are down by 2.3% overall, with a 5.4% decrease in feed prices. However, the cost of fertiliser continues to climb and is up 1.5% .
