The Laois Macra annual awards night will be held in Portlaoise Macra Hall on Saturday 27 June at 8.30pm. Music on the night will be by “The Little Fiddle”. A raffle will also be held. Those who won county competitions will receive awards, so make sure to attend. The entry fee is €10.
Avondhu Macra is organising ‘‘Farm Skills with a Twist’’ for its stand at the Charleville Show on Sunday 28 June. For the Avondhu Macra Teams, the club of the day competition comprises three parts: PRO book, straw bales challenge and pallet challenge. For kids, there will be two obstacle courses in play: ‘‘Farm Skills with a Twist’’ includes child-sized replicas of the Farm Skills in the national competition and a few surprise twists along the way. There will be certificates of competition for all children taking part. The Avondhu invention ‘‘Super Soaker’’ will also make a return, with the unlucky victims doused in gallons of water whenever the target is hit. All monies raised will be given to a local charity. Call to the stand anytime on Sunday evening.
Crossmahon-Bandon Macra will hold a charity tractor run on Sunday 12 July for both vintage and new tractors. Registration is from 12pm at Crossmahon Bar. The tractor run is in aid of Bandon Area Special Children (BASC) and MS Ireland. There will be a barbecue after the run in Crossmahon Bar.
