Derek Deane has accused IFA national chair Jer Bergin and IFA acting general secretary Bryan Barry of moving to exclude him from the presidential race.

Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal on Wednesday, Deane said he has been left “totally frustrated” in his attempts to be added to the ticket for the IFA presidential race. Deane maintains that he should be included in the race as he received the backing of Monaghan IFA chair Brian Treanor on the day nominations closed for the president. Treanor pledged his support to Deane on the premise that Tim O’Leary pulled out of the race. O’Leary maintains he stayed in the race.

Deane is reiterating his calls for the IFA to call an emergency meeting of the executive council to discuss his position.

“I see what Jer Bergin and Bryan Barry are doing as a deliberate attempt to exclude me from the race. They feel I shouldn’t be in the race and I find the whole situation very frustrating,” Deane said.

The IFA declined to comment.
