Doonowney Pedigree Aberdeen Angus herd based in Skreen, Co Sligo is hosting its first dispersal sale of pedigree Angus cows, maiden and in calf heifers along with a number of young bulls for breeding.

The sale takes place on the farm of John and Ann McDermott in Skreen Co Sligo on 7 October and 40 lots in all will be offered for sale on the day.

The herd was established in 1993 and since then owners John and Ann have concentrated on breeding for commercial and pedigree herds while also supplying the dairy sector.

Over the years pedigree bulls and heifers have been sold for export to Northern Ireland and throughout Ireland including to the Irish Farmers Journal suckler farm in Tullamore.

All the bulls offered for sale are rated either four or five stars on replacement and terminal indexes and will be eligible for suckler farmers in the beef genomics scheme.

Females for sale on the day include four cows with calves at foot, 16 in calf cows and heifers and 15 maiden heifers.

Many of the females are genotyped and combine ease of calving, are positive for milk and carcass weight and have good fertility traits.

This sale is an opportunity for angus breeders to upgrade or expand their existing herd or for a new entrant pedigree breeder to establish a quality foundation stock.

Bulls for sale on the day also offer dairy herds, ease of calving, short gestation along with beefing ability to suit the beef finisher.
