DowDuPont has announced it will break itself up into three independently traded companies from the middle of 2019. DowDuPont was only formed in September last year after the two US giants Dow Chemicals and DuPont received regulatory clearance to go ahead with a $130bn (€106bn) merger.

In an announcement this week, DowDuPont said it would break itself up and spin off its agricultural division, materials science division and speciality products division into three separate companies.

DowDuPont said its agriculture division, which includes its agrochemical and seeds business, will be spun off as a new entity known as Corteva Agriscience.

The group will spin off its materials science division into a new company called Dow, while its speciality products division will be known as DuPont. The company said it expects the spin-offs to be completed by June 2019.

Corteva Agrisciences will control some of the best known brands in the agricultural seed and chemical input sector such as Pioneer, Mycogen and Quelex.
