Food, flowers, farming and fashion are promised at the annual Cork Summer Show, which is set to take place on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June at the Curraheen Showgrounds, Co Cork.

The show has been taking place for over 200 years in Cork. This year brings the Taste Cork indoor food market, live music and a Grow Your Own horticulture tent. Bee-keeping, drone racing and a fashion and catwalk tent will also be at the event over the weekend.

“We’re in the lucky position this year, in that we had a great show last year. The weather was excellent and it was a massive success. We’re hoping this year will be even better and that the good weather will stay for the weekend,” said Gerard Murphy, chair of the Munster Agricultural Society. The society is responsible for organising the show.

It will take place from 9am to 6pm each day. There is free car parking on the showgrounds along with a free park and ride service to and from the event.

The kids zone will offer a whole host of activities to entertain the little ones including face painting, bouncy castles, crazy golf and a train circling the showgrounds.

Craft beers, ciders and spirits will be available for the adults, along with over 70 artisan food stalls from all over Munster.

AGRICULTURE

For farmers, cattle and poultry showing classes are on Saturday, with sheep, goat and pig showing classes on Sunday. There will be a petting farm open both days of the show.

The Association of Irish Floral Artists are organising flower arranging classes and floral competitions over the weekend.

“The Cork Summer Show is truly a celebration of Ireland’s heritage and agricultural background... We are lucky to have such a special show in Cork each year,” said Cork County Mayor Declan Hurley at the show’s launch.

It is Cork’s oldest and largest agricultural, food and gardening event, spanning 100ac in size. Last year’s show had 60,000 visitors over the two days. From an All-Ireland bread baking competition to an extensive agri-machinery and equipment zone, the Cork Summer Show has all bases covered.

A one-day adult ticket costs €15 and kids under 12 go free. The Cork Summer Show app is available to download for free on Apple and Android. CL
