A Fantastic Woman
2 March: Written and directed by Sebastián Lelio, this 2017 Chilean drama tells the story of Marina, a transsexual woman who is devastated by the death of her older boyfriend Orlando, who passed away after falling seriously ill. Due to the suspicion of the doctor and Orlando’s family, Marina is not able to grieve for her partner as she becomes a suspect. As Marina is not accepted by Orlando’s family and is forbidden to attend Orlando’s funeral, she is left with no choice but to battle the same forces she spent a lifetime fighting to become the woman that she is today.
Seven Drunken Nights
3 March: Seven Drunken Nights will take you on a musical journey veering through the career of Ireland’s favourite sons, The Dubliners. This musical performance, taking place at the Millennium Forum in Derry, will showcase their rise to fame, beginning with their roots in O’Donoghue’s pub in Dublin. Seven Drunken Nights will feature the highlights of their astounding 50-year career, portraying the heart and soul of the Irish folk band that the world fell in love with. 4 March: The Royal Moscow Ballet presents Sleeping Beauty at the Town Hall Theatre in Galway. This will be their very first performance in the Town Hall, bringing one of the most beloved fairy tales to the stage. Sleeping Beauty will be showcased with a twist as this tale of love and innocence, mystery and magic will be fused with stunning choreography, breathtaking costumes and vibrant sets, which will transport you straight into this fairy-tale world. 3 March: Irish comedian Neil Delamere is bringing his latest comedy show, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Pensioner, to the Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge, Co Kildare. This new show begins with Neil’s dad asking him to help deliver Meals on Wheels and things quickly escalate. The award-winning comedian is a familiar face to audiences, having made regular TV appearances on RTÉ and the BBC as well as performing his sell-out stand-up tours.
