The Irish Simmental Cattle Society held the final of its spring sales in Roscommon last weekend. The sale was held in conjunction with a Simmental crossbred heifer sale on the evening of Friday 11 May.

Trade was much improved on the year, with the top price up by €450 at €3,250. Taking home this price was the pre-sale show champion Bingfield Jagger.

Tapped out by judge Christopher White, this February 2017-born bull is out of Dripsey Eddie Rocket, while the dam was out of Curaheen Vio.

This one was bred and exhibited by Arnold and Martina Hastings, Crossdoney, Co Cavan, and carried five stars down the line.

Securing second-top position in the show was Martin Mooney with Tisaran Jackson. This 12-month-old dark red bull was sired by Auroch Deuter, while the dam features Curaheen Wakeman and Hillcrest King in the pedigree. With five stars on the terminal index, Jackson met trade at €2,600.

Stylish

Second-top price of the night went to the extremely stylish Shiloh-Farm Jockey. Brought out by Hugh and Sarah Murray, 13-month-old Jockey caught a lot of eyes before the hammer eventually dropped at €3,050. This bull’s pedigree featured Kilbride Farm Escalop, Hillcrest Butcher and Cralling Barrister.

Overall, eight bulls sold, on par with last year, to average €2,500.
