Ford believes that the new Edge will be the flagship of Ford’s SUV line-up in Europe when it goes on sale in 2015. This new Ford SUV claims to offer smooth and precise adaptive steering technology and comes with Ford’s adaptive noise cancellation system in Europe and front split view camera technology.
The Edge was first launched in North America in 2007, where it has consistently been the top-selling vehicle in the segment, achieving record sales in 2013. This will be Ford’s biggest SUV in Europe, with claims of refinement, impressive technology in a spacious SUV.
The new Ford Edge will feature adaptive steering, which will make it easier to manoeuvre and claims to be more fun to drive. Adaptive Steering continually changes the steering ratio with vehicle speed, optimising the steering response in all conditions.
At lower speeds, such as when pulling into a parking space or manoeuvring in tight quarters, the new system makes the vehicle easier to turn. At motorway speeds, it enables Edge to react more smoothly and precisely to driver input.
Ford’s active noise cancellation system uses three microphones in the cabin and generates opposing sound waves directed through the audio system that claim to enhance the overall engine sound and cabin ambiance.
Front split view camera technology claims to make negotiating difficult junctions or parking spaces with restricted visibility easier. It uses a 180-degree camera system installed at the front of the vehicle.
The Edge also features specially designed ducts along the side of the vehicle that claim to create an “air curtain”, improving aerodynamics at speed.
