If there is a low-voltage power line running through your outfarm coming from a transformer, you could get a feed from the line to service an electric fencer. A small structure to house the meter cabinet (outside) and mains fencer inside is needed. The ESB will facilitate this connection if you send in an unmetered application form to the ESB’s Portlaoise hub. When the ESB receives your application they will send a technician out to access the site and set a cost. An unmetered connection with a low current that will only service a mains fencer will cost around €7-10 per month. In general, the cost of putting in an unmetered connection suitable for just a mains fencer is:
€340 plus vat for up to 50m underground from a low-voltage line. (Line coming from a transformer feeding houses).
€1,620 plus vat for up to 200m of overhead network and underground cable to connection point.
€2,810 plus vat for a transformer and pole if a 10/20kv line is running through the land.
