Earlier this year, Oscar winner Russell Crowe paid a visit to these shores while promoting his latest offering, the cinematic adaptation of the biblical tale of Noah.

The Irish Farmers Journal caught up with the Aussie / Kiwi actor to ask him about the film but also about the little-known fact that Crowe is indeed a farmer is in his adopted Australia.

Crowe surprised most by, firstly, being polite, but secondly by having some expert local knowledge.

“You guys [in Ireland], you have the Ploughing Championships there in September,” Russell said with more than a glint of pride in his eye.

Crowe went on to wax lyrical about his 225-strong Angus herd and his 790-acre ranch. So should we expect to see the Hollywood A-lister at a livestock demo at the Journal stand, or chewing the fat with Larry Goodman over the beef price crisis this year, or taking part in the welly throwing competition? Who knows?

Make sure you pick up a copy of the Irish Farmers Journal this Thursday to find out.
