Dairygold's Mallow plant and Carbery's ingredients factory in Balineen, both in Co Cork, as well as Arrabawn's Nenagh plant in Co Tipperary have come off the EPA's national priority sites list for enforcement, the agency announced this Tuesday.

However, food processors still make up half of the eight sites on the latest version of the list. They are:

  • The Queally-controlled Arrow Group's Dawn Farm Foods pig processing plant in Naas, Co Kildare.
  • Green Pasture Meat Processors, another pig processing plant in Drumlish, Co Longford.
  • The Danone-owned Nutricia Infant Nutrition dairy processing plant in Macroom, Co Cork.
  • Rosderra Irish Meats Group's pig processing plant in Edenderry, Co Offaly.
  • T&J Standish, a sawmill in Roscrea, Co Offaly, also appears on the list.
  • The other three sites targeted by environmental enforcement officers are a landfill in Co Galway, a cement factory in Limerick and Shell's gas extraction operation in Co Mayo.

The list was established based on the number of environmental complaints and compliance issues recorded at EPA-licensed sites around the country. "The list is used to target the EPA’s enforcement effort at the poorest performing sites in order to drive improvements in environmental compliance," the EPA explained.
