Calf numbers on offer in marts was high again last week, but the average price paid for Friesian bulls eased slightly.

Mart managers have said that the main supply of Friesian bull calves are selling from €25 to €35/head, with some sales seeing over €40/head.

Stronger three-week-old calves are from €35 to €50/head, with four-week-old calves as high as €60/head.

The numbers of Angus and Hereford calves on offer have increased substantially in the past few weeks. Prices are ranging from €55 to €100 for Angus heifers, while bulls are selling from €120 to €150/head.

Hereford bull calves are selling mainly from €130 to €190/head, depending on age and quality, with heifers selling from €80 to €140/head.

Where strong January-born calves are on offer, prices of over €250/head are available in some areas.
