The Roads Policing Unit stopped a farmer in county Offaly for towing an unsafe load of straw bales yesterday.
The driver was using a crew-cab jeep and a dual-axle flatbed trailer to transport five bales of straw when he was stopped by Gardaí.
The vehicle in question had no tax, no DOE and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. Gardaí said court proceedings will follow and the driver will be issued with fixed charge notices.
Along with the load being unsafe, they also sighted the absence of a safety or break away cable on the trailer as a major concern.
Gardaí advised that all goods should always be transported safely.
