The Irish Limousin Cattle Society held its last sale of the year at Tullow Mart last Wednesday, with trade topping at €4,000 for the first bull into the ring.

Galbally King Kong 1076, a Castleview Gazelle son, secured the top price for Trevor Masterson, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford.

The March 2015-born King Kong carried five stars on both terminal and replacement within and across breed, along with a calving difficulty of 5.2%.

The Wexford breeder also exhibited the reserve overall champion Galbally Kane 1077. Also born in March 2015, this one is sired by Haltcliffe Dancer and out of a Ronnick Hawk-bred dam. Again carrying five stars down the line, he met his reserve at €3,200.

Officiating as judge was Michael Oliver, who runs the Lisnacrann herd in Swinford, Co Mayo. He found his champion in the form of Maythorn Killannny.

Bred by Martin McConnon, Co Monaghan, Killanny is a powerful June 2015- born son of Virginia Andy. Carrying five stars on terminal index, he found a new home at €3,000.

Thomas Bailey, Batterstown, Co Meath, secured the second-highest price of the day at €3,700 for Baileys Khon. Sired by Ampertaine Elgin and out of a Nenuphar-bred dam, this 19-month-old bull boasted €126 on terminal index.

Glencarrigh Kiesza realised €3,300 for Galway breeder Anthony Glynn. Sired by a homebred Haltcliffe Dancer son, the May 2015-born bull is out of a Fieldson Alfy-bred dam.

Next best at €2,900 was Teleri Thomas with Keltic Koolcustomer. This twin to a male was sired by Dinmore Goldcrest and out of a Bapton Javelin-bred dam and carried 32 stars down the line.

The two other first prize winners on the day achieved €2,700 each.

First in the money was Noel and John Smyth with Greeve Kenao, a well-made Achile son. Also at that money, the Richardson family’s red rosette winner Newtown Kamakazie was sired by Castleview Gringo.

Overall male averages took a €500 hit compared with last year to reach just shy of €2,600 with a clearance of 68%.

Only five females were presented, with the champion coming in the form of 14-month-old Kilbricken Karen Et. Bred by Denis Dowling, Co Laois, she has Sympa, Samy and Mas Du Clo in her lineage. Karen went on to be the only female sold at €2,750.

Denis was also the recipient of the reserve female championship with Kilbricken Kerry Et. This a Wilodge Fastrac-bred heifer from the same dam as the champion.
