This week the Glanbia MilkFlex fund was announced as the winner of the European Award for Co-operative Innovation.

It is a well-deserved award for a co-op with a strong track record in developing innovative products for its suppliers.

While we often challenge various aspects of some schemes, few could argue that the development of MilkFlex and the pioneering of a fixed milk price scheme has delivered for farmers.

We also received a letter from a former Glanbia board member taking issue with comments made in last week’s paper in relation to the man behind these innovative schemes, Sean Molloy.

Of course, the comments were made in relation to a specific presentation given by Sean at the Teagasc conference.

Given what he has delivered in his career, few could credibly question his commitment and contribution to Irish farming.
