The GLAS traditional farm buildings grant scheme for 2017 has opened for applications, with funding from €4,000 to €25,000 available to cover 75% of the cost of conservation work to traditional buildings.
Only farmers approved in a GLAS scheme can apply for the funding, which is available for conservation works to the exterior of farm outbuildings as well as associated structures, such as historic yard surfaces, walls and gates.
Eligible applicants for the scheme are chosen on a competitive basis and around 50 to 70 projects will be supported each year.

“We strongly encourage and support farmers to carry out at least some of the repairs themselves. By connecting owners with their buildings in this way, it enhances their hands-on knowledge to continue repairs to the building well into the future,” Heritage Council project manager Anna Meenan said.
The closing date for receipt of applications is 5pm on Friday 18 November 2016. The Heritage Council has said that forms received by fax or email will not be accepted. Application forms can be downloaded from the Heritage Council website.
