Netherlands – milk production down

Dutch milk production for June stood at just over 1.1bn litres, down 3% on the same month last year. Dutch milk production for the first half of 2019 (Jan-Jun) stands at 6.7bn litres, down 3%, or 200m litres, on the same period last year.

Russia – wheat harvest forecast lowered

Hot weather in Russia has seen a host of agencies cut their forecast for the 2019 wheat crop. Russia’s ministry for agriculture has lowered its forecast for 2019 wheat production to 75m tonnes, while independent agency IKAR cut its forecast to 77.5m tonnes.

US – 2019 crops in poorer condition

After torrential rain and flooding for much of June, US crops are in poorer shape than previous years. Last week, the USDA estimated less than 60% of the US maize (corn) crop to be in good or excellent condition, which compares to 72% of last year’s crop rated good or excellent.

Paraguay – beef exports decline

Exports of fresh and frozen beef from Paraguay for June stood at 19,500t, down 18% on the same month last year. For the first six months of 2019, Paraguayan beef exports are down 15% year on year.
