Glanbia Ireland

“I am currently a ruminant business manager with Glanbia Ireland. Coming from a farming background, I always had a keen interest in pursuing agriculture further as a career. I did animal and crop production in UCD.

“Conscious of the fact that I wanted a career which struck a good balance between office and outdoor work, I discovered the Glanbia graduate programme. Through its 70:20:10 structure, the programme allowed the majority of learning to be completed through on the job experience, coupled with formal training sessions and mentoring.

Given the conditions of the summer in 2018, there was pressure on business managers

“I started out in Dungarvan with Glanbia. Given the conditions of the summer in 2018, there was pressure on business managers to manage the workload. The agri graduates were able to assist in this backlog and, as a result, gained real-life experience and responsibility in the world of a business manager.

“Throughout the next nine months, I completed rotations within the agri division from work on the road to assisting in agri branches.

“Through exposure to all elements of Glanbia Agri, I had the confidence to apply for a business manager’s role in the south Wexford/Kilkenny area. Currently, I manage the accounts of over 150 Glanbia account holders, managing inputs, diets, nutrient management, as well as anything else which may affect the daily running of the farm from a Glanbia point of view.”
