Having won the yearling bull class, Grianan Oscar later went on to claim male champion in the Hereford class before being tapped forward as Overall Champion by judge Hazel Timmis.

Bred and exhibited by Tom and Anselm Fitzgerald, Moate, Co Westmeath, Oscar is sired by Smithson Darby and out of homebred dam Grianan Orange, who herself was an all-Ireland calf champion.

The 13-month-old is set for the Premier sale in Tullamore this October.

Standing reserve overall champion and finishing off a very successful day for the Goulding family of Ballyduff, Co Kerry, was Gouldingpoll 1 Duchess 591. Having come out on top of what was the biggest class of the day in the Hereford ring (16), the two-year-old went on to clinch overall female champion title ahead of her three-year-old maternal sister Gouldingpoll 1 Duchess 548, who stood reserve. Dam of the successful duo was twice national champion Dorepoll 1 R51 Duchess 525, while Remitall Superduty was sire of the champion and Harvie Dan Hidalgo was behind the reserve.

Reserve honours in the Male section went to Samuel and Nigel Heatrick, Monaghan, for their 16-month-old Glaslough Nationwide. This one is sired by herd sire Rathregan Napoleon and out of dam Glaslough Gemma.

Angus

Dr Michael Sheahan’s two-year-old Luddenmore Ellen Erica N244 claimed the female and overall championship in the Angus ring. Sired by Nightingale Proud Jake and out of imported dam Elliot Erica, N244 adds another honour to the ever-expanding list of accolades the Ellen Erica family has won for the Tipperary-based herd.

Standing reserve was the male champion Wedderlie Blackbox, brought out by Albert De Cogan, Castlemartyr, Co Cork. Sired by Abberton Mr Bionic, Black Box is no stranger to the show ring having accumulated a number of male and overall championships at local shows this year.

Reserve in the female section went to the junior heifer Knockadrianan Blackbird 599. This October daughter of Nightingale Dunbar is out of homebred dam Knockadrinan Blackbird K507, a consistent producer of show winners for breeder Tom Reynolds, Bornacoola, Co Leitrim.

Intermediate bull Liss Marthy M417 picked up the reserve championship honours in the male section for breeder John McEnroe, Oldcastle, Co Meath. This homebred 17-month-old is sired by imported herd sire The Moss Entholerence.

Blonde D’Aquitaine

Ballinascraw Glory was selected as overall champion for the third time in the Blonde ring for breeder John Lynch, Ballinalee, Co Longford. This 2012-born Fronfedw Arawn-sired cow first took the championship as a seven-month-old calf.

Well-known breeder John Barry Moran claimed Reserve honours for his nine-month-old Broccagh Iris. This nine-month-old embryo heifer’s full brother also claimed top spot in the Junior bull class. The sire here was Ogre, while the dam was Brockagh Winnie.

Parthenaise

Wexford breeders claimed the overall and reserve championships in the Parthenaise ring, with Patrick Doyle, Bunclody, taking top honours for Kyle Jenny. Sired by Faucon, this October 2014 heifer is out of homebred dam Kyle Heidi and was tapped forward by judge Billy Dunne. Harry Steacy, Gorey, won the last class of the Parthenaise before receiving reserve overall. This one goes back to Daker and French-bred cow Evadebelle.
