HSI lobbies Government to allow youth and amateur competition to resume

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has rejected Horse Sport Ireland’s (HSI) request to allow the immediate resumption of all youth and non-elite competition. These divisions must wait until Monday 7 June before resuming.

HSI is awaiting a response from DAFM after requesting an allowance for youth and amateur athletes to participate at international events taking place over the June Bank Holiday weekend at Mullingar (show jumping) and Millstreet (eventing).

A press release from HSI reads: “HSI outlined in detail the many different reasons as to why it feels a return to competition for youth and non-elite is warranted. Regrettably however, the department have rejected HSI’s request and they have advised the timeline as set (7 June) for those divisions to resume competitive sport, will be adhered to. It is important to note that this decision is not one taken or supported by HSI but rather direct from Government.”
