We’ve all done daft things as farmers, but few compare with the actions of Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella who ploughed up his cornfield (maize) to build a baseball pitch because a voice told him to.

Of course, Kinsella is a fictional character, portrayed by Kevin Costner in the iconic film Field of Dreams.

The film is now 30 years old, and the pitch has become Iowa’s leading tourist attraction.

Last weekend, the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox played a major league game in a pop-up temporary stadium built in the cornfields beside the original set.

Heartwarming

Costner rocked up to commentate, the players wore vintage uniforms and the whole thing was rather heartwarming.

Catch some highlights on YouTube, then watch the film, it’s a classic.
