A procedural wrangle in Waterford IFA is escalating to the national stage.

A motion calling on the secretary and chair of the IFA’s rules and privileges committee to step down was passed by Waterford’s monthly executive on Tuesday.

At last month’s Waterford IFA agm, dairy chair Mark Conors faced a challenge for his position from Breda Keane.

The contest never took place. County chair Kevin Kiersey deemed her nomination invalid as it had not been approved at the agm of the nominating branch.

The matter was referred to the rules and privileges committee. Kiersey read its response at Waterford IFA’s monthly executive meeting on Tuesday.

It stated that while Kevin Kiersey’s ruling was reasonable, on balance the nomination should have been allowed.

A motion calling for the rules and privileges chair Tim Cullinan and secretary Bryan Barry to step down was then proposed and passed.

When Mark Conors was elected dairy chair two years ago, he defeated Breda Keane’s husband, Michael, who himself has previously served as the chair of IFA’s rules and privileges committee.

Conors, Keane and Kiersey are all members of the same branch, Kilmacthomas.
