The pace of winter barley ripening is varying considerable around the country, but harvest 2019 began in places this week.
Early reports indicate that the harvest has begun in south Cork and Tipperary.
The Irish Farmers Journal visited Kieran Fitzgerald, Castlelyons, Co Cork, who has made a start to his harvesting campaign. While it is too early for accurate predictions, the early signs point towards a reasonable yield.

Kieran’s first sample of winter malting barley came in at 21% moisture and a specific weight of 68 KPH.
