Crowds from all over the country made the journey to Co Cavan for the 78th Virginia Agricultural Show.

One of the main attractions at the show is the Baileys champion dairy cow, which has a prize of €10,000 up for grabs. The title will be contested by over 25 dairy breeders from the four provinces in Ireland.

The event itself is the most prestigious competition of its kind in the entire country, which rewards strength, good body conformation as well as quality milk production.

John McEnroe took home the champion Angus title with his five-year-old cow Liss Biluri M412.

The winner of the champion Charolais title went to Adam and William Woods from Ballyconnell, Co Cavan.

Other attractions include cattle showing, sheep shearing demonstrations, dog shows and tent talks on bio-diversity and food.

Martin Davis from Co Longford took home the male Limousin overall champion.

Zoe Grennan and Hannah Williamson with their prize-winning Holstein calf pairs.
