The weekly cattle sale at Thainstone, Aberdeen and Northern Marts saw an entry of 532 stores sold, along with weaned calves, young bulls and breeding cattle.
There were 280 steers sold to an average price of £2.25/kg. The top price per kilo was £2.83/kg for a pen of 336kg Limousin animals, with the top price per head at £1,415 for a pair of 624kg Aberdeen Angus.
Meanwhile, 167 heifers went under the hammer and averaged £2.24/kg. The best price per kilo was paid on a pair of 440kg Simmentals which made £2.59/kg. The highest price per head was £1,430 for a pair of 568kg Simmental animals.
Good show
Only 21 bulls were sold, with prices averaging £2.06/kg and a top price of £2.23/kg for a 406kg Charolais and the highest per head at £1,070 for a 568kg Limousin. The top price for young and weaned calves was £490/head.
Head Auctioneer John Angus said: "A good show of strong cattle was forwarded and they met a very fast selling trade, especially Aberdeen Angus cattle with grazing cattle also making good rates.
“Stronger cattle have increased in value in the ring, as the abattoir is paying £150 to £200 a head more compared to a month ago. Lighter, longer-keep cattle at around 300kg are no more expensive than earlier in spring."
This Charolais steer, 13 months old and weighing 316kg, sold for £800.
Two Blonde d'Aquitaine heifers, 10 and 12 months old and weighing 334kg, sold for £950.
Three Simmental steers, 14 to 18 months old and weighing 544kg, sold for £1,210.
Two Limousin heifers, 14 months old and weighing 470kg, sold for £1,175.
Three Limousin steers, 13 to 15 months old, sold for £1,120.
