Pedigree bull breeders across the country are reporting an exceptional few weeks of on-farm selling. This is particularly evident in the southern part of the country with breeders of bulls suitable for the dairy market benefiting most.

Traditional breeds such as Hereford and Angus have seen depleted bull numbers at sales over the past three to four weeks due to breeders selling on farm in advance of the sale.

In some cases, only 50% of the bulls catalogued have been in attendance.

Breeders are reporting that repeat buyers and new customers have come to select their bull for the coming season a lot earlier than usual.

This has resulted in some breeders having most, if not all, of their bulls sold in advance of the peak sale season which is usually the entire month of April.

Buyer choice and flexibility are said to be the main reasons behind the early demand.
