Good morning. In the news today: Bird flu strain on Scottish farm, Alltech acquires Masterfeeds, US beef analyst on Ireland's prospects and another win for farming at the BT Young Scientist Awards.
It will be cold and windy today, according to Met Éireann, with scattered showers - some heavy and possibly wintry. Most of the showers will affect Ulster as well as northern and eastern parts of Leinster, where they may turn prolonged this morning. There will be just the odd heavy one elsewhere, with much of the south midlands and southeast staying nearly fully dry. It will become mostly dry by early afternoon. Highest temperatures will range from 4°C to 7°C.

The Scottish government has confirmed that a very mild strain of H5N1 avian influenza has been identified on a poultry farm in Fife.
