Galway native Kevin Keary, who previously held the position of policy adviser to European Commissioner for Agriculture Phil Hogan, becomes a full cabinet member from this Tuesday.
The Irish Farmers Journal understands that he is replacing Shane Sutherland among the statutorily limited number of cabinet members.
A graduate of NUI Galway and Lund University,Sweden, Keary began his Brussels career as adviser to Irish MEPs before moving on to the European Commission after Hogan’s appointment in 2014.

His focus until now was communication with the media and other EU institutions, as well as policy in Europe’s outermost regions, the food supply chain and generational renewal.
He joins Hogan’s mostly Irish cabinet headed by Peter Power and including Tom Tynan.
Senior communication adviser Dermot Ryan also hails from Ireland.
