JCB has launched a new compact 50hp 403 Plus wheel loader, which sees a doubling of power, increased hydraulic capacity and forward speed on the current Smart Power model.

The newly unveiled JCB 403 Plus mirrors the size and layout of the firm’s current 25hp 403 Smart Power, but features more grunt thanks to a 1.7l 50hp engine and a 60l/min hydraulic capacity.

The 403 is JCB’s smallest wheel loader, but the new Plus version has a power-to-weight ratio equivalent to its biggest machines. It’s designed for use in tight farmyards, small buildings and other confined locations.

Transmission

The new 403 Plus model has a hydrostatic transmission which comes in 20km/h and 30km/h versions. The 60l/min gear pump provides oil for the articulated chassis steering, lift arms and front end attachments.

An auxiliary circuit to operate attachments provides constant flow to drive a hydraulic motor on equipment if required.

Flow can be controlled using a regular lever valve or the optional electric control on the loader’s joystick.

It comes with a choice of lift arm sizes – a load-over height of 2.6m, or the extended option taking this to 2.8m. Overall height is 2.2m, but this can be lowered to 1.84m, while the overall width is 1.1m on narrow tyres. The 403 Plus is also equipped with an autostop feature to shut down the engine if left idling for a time-adjustable period.

It comes with three choices of cab – a fully-glazed cab, semi-glazed rigid canopy or low-height fold-down frame. A new towing option is available with clevis and 50mm ball hitches, both with a capacity of 750kg.

JCB LiveLink telemetry is installed on the new Plus model to provide remote location, fault early warning alerts and operational records.

Starting price for the 403 plus is €42,000 plus VAT.
