The Miley family of Declan, Mark and Joe continued their run of form from the Charollais into the Belclare ring, again claiming top spot. The Belclare breed were one of five breeds to hold their national finals at the event. Judge in the Belclare ring was Galway-native Liam Conway, who stands as one of the most accomplished pedigree breeders in the country.

A smaller-than-anticipated entry saw the classes run off in fast succession, with Mr Conway eventually finding his champion in the form of the Miley brothers hogget ewe. This homebred yearling from the Knockcroghery flock is sired by stock ram Coolgara Blaze, who bred the record priced ram for the flock at last year’s premier sale.

Claiming the reserve championship sash was Rathkenty Dominator from Richard and John Lalor, Clonmel, Co Tipperary. This first prizewinning-ram lamb was sired by homebred Rathkenty Alabama.
