The Krone Big X 480/530/580/630 series models have undergone a major facelift, with new technology and features. All models are powered by MTU engines (up to 653hp) and comply with Stage 5 emission standards. Mounted sideways, the engine sits right at the back which Krone says is for optimum weight distribution. When shod on 710/70R42 tyres, these foragers have a 3m transport width.

Cab

The updated models feature a cab sourced from the Big X 680-1180 which is available in two levels of specification – the standard-fit Premium (8in terminal) or optional Premium Comfort cab (leather-clad steering wheel and 12in terminal).

The XtraPower assistance system brings extra engine power to the machine, depending on requirements. After the machine is registered, the extra power is enabled online, ready for retrieval whenever required. Available in 10 to 250 drum hour packages, XtraPower can only be retrieved in field work, so the extra power is used only on demand. If additional power is no longer required, the driver can select “Pause” on the terminal and the machine returns automatically and immediately to its previous output level.

Data management

As standard, the new Big X data management system allows operators to use Krone Smart Telematics from the customer web portal mykrone.green or on agrirouter, the universal data exchange hub.

OptiMaxx CornConditioner

Like the wide body Big X series, these updated models have the new OptiMaxx CornConditioner with teeth angled at 5°. The helical cut produces a shearing effect that gives intensive conditioning not only lengthwise but also transversely. Like all Krone corn conditioners, the rollers measure 250mm in diameter as standard while roller length increased by 25% for a 25% larger friction surface area. Available in two versions with 105/123 teeth or 123/144 teeth, the 105/123 tooth unit is ideal for medium and long LOCs whereas the 123/144 tooth conditioner is recommended for short to medium chop lengths. Krone say the speed difference is 30% as standard and 40% or 50% as an option.

Both CornConditioner versions are also available in heavy-duty specification. Krone say the roller conditioner housing is mounted in heavy-duty bearings that withstand the enormous throughputs.

They outline that another plus point is the strong spring pack that allows the rollers to exert a consistently high pressure on the material, while frictional and reliable connection is provided by a standard-fit 6-groove drive belt. Meanwhile, the German firm note the VariQuick system allows operators to change rapidly from kernel cracking to grass conditioning for maximum flexibility.
