The Northern Stars sale will take place at Ballymena Livestock Mart on Saturday 21 December. On offer this year will be a total of 91 select gimmers from six award-winning flocks.
The sale is an opportunity to upgrade or indeed start a flock with a selection of quality ewes, in-lamb to a number of proven sires.
This year joining the sale of select in-lamb gimmers of Alastair Gault (Forkins), Richard Henderson (Ballynahone), Roger Strawbridge (Tamnamoney) and Victor and David Chestnutt (Clougher) with guest consignments from local breeder Martin Warnock, Straidarran Flock, Limavady, and the Ettrick and Tima flocks of Gordon and David Gray, Selkirk, Scotland.
Both the Forkins and Cherryvale flocks have had outstanding successes in the sales ring, and offer buyers the opportunity to purchase from 20 gimmers of well established bloodlines within the flock in-lamb to both proven and first season rams. Sportsman’s Scania is the main sire.
Gimmer crop
Ballynahone Texels are offering for sale the majority of this year’s gimmer crop from some of the best families in the flock, including the first-prize gimmer and reserve champion Balmoral and members of the first prize-winning pen of ewe lambs in last year’s flock competition.
One of the guests this year is Martin Warnock of the Straidarran Texel flock, Limavady. The flock was established in 1996 and presents five quality gimmers for sale by noted sires including Baltier Panther, Teiglum Magnum and Duncryne Ringmaster.
The gimmers selected have been served with the noted 20,000gns Knock Travis and a home-bred lamb by Westray Talisman.
The prestigious Ettrick and Tima Flocks from Gordon and David Gray, Selkirk, Scotland, are presenting 10 gimmers for sale as a guest consignment.
The Ettrick flock was established in 1982 and has aimed to breed stock with both the commercial and pedigree market in mind.
