It was a mixed year for farmland property in Co Leitrim last year. The supply of land for sale was up but average selling price was down.

Nineteen farms meeting our criteria were placed on the market, compared to 14 the year before. The total area for sale was 722ac, up from 310ac. All of these farms sold.

Average price in 2022 was €5,568/ac, down from €6,118/ac the year before. The majority of the 14 farms offered were under 40ac in size, and these averaged €5,971/ac on sale. That left five farms over 40ac in size, and they averaged €4,439/ac on sale.

Sherry Fitzgerald Declan Woods successfully auctioned a 123.13ac holding at Annaghmore, Mohill achieving €456,000. But most sales were handled by private treaty.

Abbey Property Sales sold 70ac at Mohill. Darragh Heraghty sold 68ac at Drumkeeran. DM Auctions sold 75.36ac at Shasgar, Rossinver. REA Donohoe Spring successfully sold 130ac of mature forestry at Newtowngore to a forestry company.

A number of other holdings were placed on the market last year but were excluded from all our calculations as they were too small, exclusively forestry or hadn’t closed by year end.
