Roger McCarrick of REA McCarrick and Sons has two large blocks of land in Donegal on the market. Viewed largely as investment properties, although they differ in size, there is a lot of similarities between the two properties.

First up is 348 acres at Rath Mountain, Laghey, Co Donegal. Located on the R232 Donegal to Pettigo road, it is about seven miles south of Donegal town and three miles off the N15 Sligo to Donegal road. Roughly 170 acres, consists of semi-mature forestry mostly made up of Sitka Spruce and Pine. Planted over 25 years ago, it is likely to be ready for thinning or felling over the next decade.

The remainder is open bog and mountain, over which various people have turbury rights. The auctioneer suggested there could be potential for some sheep grazing. There are two derelict cottages on the property, both have fallen into serious neglect, but there is a possibility of rebuilding them subject to planning.

The mature forestry ground is located a short drive from Donegal town.

One of the old dwellings is within 60m of the northern shore of Lough Nadarragh, while the other cottage is along a side road off the R232. Access to both cottages is off the side road. The guide price is €350,000.

The second property is 124 acres at Sallows, roughly eight miles north west of Donegal town. Guided at €240,000, this offering consists primarily of forestry. Planted in the early 1990s it is laid out in good manageable blocks and has good access.
